For your consideration…

Conformity is easier, but it steals a lot of life growth. Let me give an example. As a manager in automotive, it was much easier to understand the needs of a work force that had one set of values: God, country, and family. Compare that to a workforce that is multi cultural with multi religions, loyalty to other countries, different emphasis on family and/or what that family looks like. There is no judgment here. It is just a statement that one situation is easier to manage in a workforce than another. One may never want to work overtime on a Sunday while others are willing to get the opportunity to earn the extra money. Holidays celebrated for one are common versus varied for the other. Ideas and suggestions from one are much more varied because their views and life experiences are much more varied.

Our message today reminds us that there is no right or wrong. There is absolutely something for everyone and this need to fight about who is right on any issue, is unnecessary. Some like winter vacations while others love beach. Some love big families while other want small. Religious beliefs, fashion, food, etc., are viewed differently by each and every person. There is nothing wrong with this. There is something for everyone.

Rather than fight about it we should celebrate and embrace the diversity…the non-conformity.

Lou Holtz wrote, “Everybody needs four things in life: Something to do, someone to love, someone to believe in, and something to HOPE for.” Notice that this is a framework. Everything listed has various ways to accomplish it. That is the fun and randomness of life. Embrace it.

That is the HOPE. and so it is.

Bit by bit, piece by piece, HOPE by HOPE action steps anyone can take…

-Affirm…“I am loved.”

-Remember…You are the keeper of your light. Wherever you go, there can be no darkness.

-Meditate/pray…ask…”What is my next step for my highest good and the highest good of all?”

-Drink lots of water.

-Get outdoors and take in at least 10 deep breaths.

-Embrace the differences.

What made me smile yesterday…

-A beautiful day.

-I spent Friday night watching Conner and Owen.

-We got up and went to Orchestra Hall for DSO’s pirate concert. It was great. The new conductor is fabulous.

-We walked to Bakersfield for a great lunch.

-After a brief stop at home, I picked Beth up and we went to Hill Auditorium to usher for the Herbie Parker concert.

-A big ahhh when I hit the bed last night.

Love, Blessings, and Gratitude,

Rev. Chris
