How Do You Mend a Broken Heart
For your consideration…
I often say that I love getting our messages via a song. But our message today came in via a sad song and it is a hard message to write. The song is an old Bee Gee song titled “How Do You Mend a Broken Heart.” Here in part are some of the lyrics;
We could never see tomorrow
But no one said a word about the sorrow
How can you mend a broken heart?
How can you stop the rain from falling down
But no one said a word about the sorrow
How can you mend a broken heart?
How can you stop the rain from falling down
How can you stop the sun from shining
What makes the world go round
What makes the world go round
And how can you mend this broken man?
How can a loser ever win?
Please help me mend my broken heart
And let me live again
How can a loser ever win?
Please help me mend my broken heart
And let me live again
I think most of us know that we will go through tough times. We just don’t know what they will be. Sometimes they are the unimaginable. Sometimes it feels like they have hallowed out a hole in our soul that can not be filled. Sometimes our sorrow is so intense it feels like we are not really breathing. And we think to ourselves, “I never signed up for this.” “This was not part of my life plan and purpose.”
Yeah, we think that but that is not true. As tough as it is, the loss and sorrow are part of our life lessons. We most likely don’t know why but somewhere in there is a life changing lesson and we get to choose that it makes us stronger and better and what we are supposed to do with it…..or not.
The acute pain of sorrow lessens with time but the pain of the loss may never go away. When we suffer significant loss and sorrow, our life is altered. Forever more we define our life as before the loss and after. How that life looks is up to us. We can shelter ourselves away…cocoon ourselves. Or we can open up and let the love and help of others come in and warm us. We have a choice. We always have a choice.
That is the HOPE. And so it is.
Bit by bit, piece by piece, HOPE by HOPE action steps anyone can take….
-Affirm…“I am loved.”
-Meditate/pray…ask…”What is my next step for my highest good and the highest good of all?”
-Drink lots of water.
-Get outdoors and take in at least 10 deep breaths.
-Surrender pain for healing.
What made me smile yesterday…
-Kelly stopped by her Mom’s and we had a great visit.
-Breakfast with Cathy.
-For the first time in 30 years, I made a trip to California and did not end up in any traffic jams.
-A whole row of seats to myself on the plane.
-Catching up with Jackie.
-Moose pictures and videos with Alex and James.
Love, Blessings and Gratitude,
Rev. Chris
