Procrastination
For your consideration….
Do you ever laugh out loud when you are all alone? Something strikes you as funny and you just can’t help it. That is how I came out of meditation this morning, laughing out loud. I often say I love when messages come in via a song. Today’s message came in on a song….the theme song from a very old TV western called Rawhide. So, of course, I am thinking “This can’t possibly be right.” I know this song. My Dad used to sing it to me. It is about cattle drives.
Theme from Rawhide (in part)
Keep movin’, movin’, movin’
Though they’re disapprovin’
Keep them doggies movin’, rawhide!
Don’t try to understand ’em
Just rope and throw and brand ’em
Soon we’ll be living high and wide!
My heart’s calculatin’
My true love will be waitin’
Be waiting at the end of my ride
Move ’em on, head ’em up, head ’em up, move ’em on
Move ’em on, head ’em up, rawhide
Cut ’em out, ride ’em in, ride ’em in
Let ’em out, cut ’em out, ride ’em in, rawhide!
H’yah! H’yah!
See my point? I had to wait for the dots to be connected for me. But even then, was laughing out loud.
We are reminded that standing still is an illusion. Life is ever-changing moment by moment. How we move into the next moment is up to us. We can choose to try to remain as we are. We can fool ourselves into thinking it is so. But it is not. If we want to move forward in growth, we must set that intention and step into it.
Wasting time trying to keep something that is gone kills opportunities and stunts our growth. Mason Cooley wrote, “Procrastination makes easy things hard, hard things harder.” The thing is, we know this and still often fall prey to it.
Our message coming in today in this silly way is our Guidance’s light-hearted way of reminding us not to waste our time procrastinating. We are asked to embrace the blessings and opportunities that lies ahead of us.
That is the HOPE. And so it is.
Bit by bit, piece by piece, HOPE by HOPE action steps anyone can take…
-Affirm…“I am loved.”
-Meditate/pray…ask…”What is my next step for my highest good and the highest good of all?”
-Drink lots of water.
-Get outdoors and take in at least 10 deep breaths. I know, I know…sometimes this weather makes us want to hold our breath.
-Keep ‘movin, ‘movin, ‘movin.
What made me smile yesterday….
-The most wonderful middle schoolers.
-Quick errands after school.
-A surprise phone call from a friend I have not seen in a long time, Sue Smith.
-Ahhh, a night with my women’s circle. So fun to see, chat and laugh over tea with Kathy and Anita. And Alex kept me company on my ride home.
Love, Blessings and Gratitude,
Rev. Chris
