Today’s Consideration
Everywhere I turn these last several days, SMILE is the reoccurring theme. More to the point the power of a smile has come to the forefront and just won’t be denied. I talked to my wise sister about this last night. Finally, I just decided to meditate on it and listen to what exactly I am supposed to pass on. So here it it.
Smiles serve several purposes, really. They and laughter are our escape valves. They release toxic doom and gloom clearing space in our core essence selves for growth and happiness. If we think about that, it probably makes sense. Most if not all of us have had a good laugh and then remarked, “I needed that.” We inherently know smiles and laughter are good for us.
What is not as easy to know, is the impact our smile has on others. We can’t always see or feel that impact. Our smiles are invitations. They are acknowledgements. They offer promise and hope. They offer comfort and encouragement.
We can’t know what is going on in the lives of those who cross our path each day. And you know what? We don’t have to know. It is a moment. We can choose to make the most of it and SMILE or let it go wasted.
SMILES are free and unlimited gifts we are all given should we choose to wear them. They are meant to be shared. They are contagious. Don’t you think this world is ready for an epidemic of joy?
Bit by bit, piece by piece, hope by hope action steps anybody can do…
-Yup, you got it….SMILE randomly, at yourself, family, friends, strangers
-Pause and take a moment for you.
-Laugh out loud
-Go outdoors and take 10 deep breaths
What Made me Smile Yesterday?
-I taught school. A student was really struggling with a math concept. Then I saw the aaaha moment. I couldn’t help but smile.
-We went out to dinner and ran into a couple of very old friends. Good memories, good fun.
-I always have smiles when my Sis calls. How can I not when my heart is singing?

I’m smiling right now, thank you. Did you know it takes fewer facial muscles to smile than it does to frown? So, it takes far less of an effort to brighten ones day than it does to darken it. Hmmm…why were we created that way? Perhaps it was in hopes of spreading smiles and laughter. After all, laughter is good medicine. 🙂
