For your consideration….

I am sure we have had messages about loss. Today’s message is about the observer. It is about those who surround the person who is suffering the loss. Specifically, we are reminded that even though we don’t understand it, agree with it or even if we think it is silly or trivial, we need to acknowledge the pain of other’s loss.

I had to think about this for a moment until I was reminded of a couple of examples. In the first my youngest daughter was about year and a half old. We were on a train coming back from Toronto. We had traveled there with our friends who had a son a little bit older. He had been awesome the whole trip. Our daughter, Alex, no so much. In fact, we nicknamed her Alex Delvecchio after the fierce hockey player. On the train she started throwing a fit. After observing her, our friend’s young son, Will, offered her his only bottle. It was the only bottle he  had left because his parent’s were weaning him from it. Alex could not know his sacrifice nor frankly, could any of us truly understand. It seemed minor to us but at Will’s bedtime it wasn’t minor to him.

I was also reminded of my father-in-law, Huge. There came a time when his health dictated that he could no longer drive. To us it was no big deal. We could get him to the places he needed to go. But to him it was huge. He used to ask my husband to drive him to the condo so that he could just touch his car.

All our message asks us to do is to show empathy. We don’t have to understand another person’s loss to support them in their loss.

That is the HOPE. And so it is.

Bit by bit, piece by piece, HOPE by HOPE action steps anyone can take….

-Meditate/pray….ask…”What is my next step for my highest good and the highest good of all?”

-Drink lots of water.

-Get outdoors and take in at least 10 deep breaths.

-Respect other people’s loss.

What made me smile yesterday….

-Great pics of the family having fun.

-Another hot, but beautiful sunny day.

-My porch flowers are still beautiful…no need to buy more.

-Catching up on a new TV series.

Love, Blessings and Gratitude,

Rev. Chris
