Bye Bye Blackbirds

Pack up all my care and woe
Here I go swingin’ low
Bye, bye, black-bird

Where somebody waits for me
Sugar’s sweet, so is she
Bye, bye, blackbird

No one here can love or understand me
Oh, what hard luck stories they all hand me

Make my bed and light the light
I’ll be home late tonight
Blackbird, bye, bye

Pack up all my care and woe
Here I go swingin’ low
Bye (bye), bye (bye) blackbird (duoo-duoo-duoo-duoo-duoo-duoo)

Where somebody waits for me
Sugar’s sweet, so is he
Bye (bye), bye (bye) blackbird (duoo-duoo-duoo-duoo-duoo-duoo)

No one here can love or understa-a-and me (ah-hah-hah)
Oh, what hard luck stories they all ha-a-and me (ah-hah-hah)

Make my bed and light the light
I’ll be home late tonight
Blackbird

Make my bed and light the light
I’ll be home late tonight
Leave your perch and take the sky
Too-da-loo, (farewell) bye, bye
Blackbirrrd, go take a fly oh little blackbird, bye

Make my bed and light the light
I’ll be home late tonight
Blackbirrrrd, bye bye

For your consideration….

First let me be clear that blackbirds get a bad rap for being bad omens. Ted Andrews in Animal-Speak tells us that they symbolize the “understanding of the energies of Mother Nature and summer.”

But our message today is buried in the song we have been given, Bye Bye Blackbird. Notice that the song is about a blackbird not birds. Blackbirds are territorial and usually are seen in pairs. It talks about leaving some tough times behind and returning to times/people that are comforting.

So our song today is all about us in the singular. We are reminded we all have the to power to leave tough times behind. And if we pause and think about it, we can all think of people, things, times etc. where we know peace, comfort, love and joy.

We all  have the power to let go of what is not serving us well and move forward. And sometimes that moving forward is by returning to roots that do serve us well. It starts with thinking about it and making a decision.

That is the HOPE. And so it is.

Bit by bit, piece by piece, HOPE by HOPE action steps anyone can take….

-Meditate/pray…ask…”What is my next step for my highest good and the highest good of all?”

-Drink lots of water.

-Get outdoors and take in at least 10 deep breaths.

-Decide….what will serve us well today.

What made me smile yesterday….

-A perfect weather day…..cool nights and warm days.

-Watching kids imitating their home lives.

-Ahhh, we finally have our little kiddos settled in where we can actually sit down in silence and eat lunch. It doesn’t seem like a big deal but being able to sit for 40 minutes versus 20 really changes your day.

-Catching us with Alex. I love how she has moved out of her comfort zone and took on learning about plants and planting.

Love, Blessings and Gratitude,

Rev. Chris
