Favorite Old Things
For your consideration….
I have to admit it took me a minute today to get today’s message. You know how when you meditate all of that “chatter” comes in and you have to dismiss it? Well today my favorite pair of “old” shoes came in. At first I thought, “Oh, they are too hot to where today to school.” It took me a minute that they were the example for today’s message. You just have to love how ingenious our Guidance is in getting us to understand their messages.
Our message today is about looking at those “old, comfortable, favorite” things in our lives. We are asked to remember when they were new. What attracted us too them? How/Why did they become of favorite things?
My favorite old shoes are black fake suede. I was first attracted to them because they looked comfortable and when I tried them on in the isles of Sam’s Club, they immediately felt light and cushy. They were cheap somewhere in the $20 range. I have had them for years and can not bear to give them up. Recently I was talking to some of my family about a couple of sweatshirts I had like that. They were soft from the get go. I bought them extra extra large so I could where things under them. One I got in Monterey and wore it for over 25 years. The other I bought at a USA water polo competition. I wore it for over 20 years. I gave it up only last year. Neither sweatshirt could be worn outside of the house for the last 5 years due to the frayed and falling off cuffs and the holes in the fabric all over them. I mourn both of them and have not found anything to replace them with.
When we look at our old and favorite things and remember them as new, we are reminded of what “works” in our life. We are reminded of what we need in life. We are reminded of what we want more of. We are reminded to be grateful. It is the same about people, jobs, homes etc. These thoughts and gratitude communicate to the Universe our wants and needs. It couldn’t be clearer.
That is the HOPE. And so it is.
Bit by bit, piece by piece, HOPE by HOPE action steps anyone can take….
-Meditate/pray…ask…”What is my next step for my highest good and the highest good of all?”
-Drink lots of water.
-Get outdoors and take in at least 10 deep breaths.
-Remember your favorite things.
What made me smile yesterday….
-Absolutely beautiful children.
-I was so exhausted, I slept for 8 hours last night….a rarity for me.
-You know it is hot and sticky when 4-5 year-olds want to stay inside a building that does not have air conditioning. But It looks like we are going to have a stand along one tomorrow….fingers crossed.
-The various freeways must be open because the one I use is back to its normal pattern. Wahoo.
-Over the last week, I have received the nicest thank you cards from my friends for the luncheon get-together we had last week. Was it really only a week ago? Hard to believe.
Love, Blessings and Gratitude,
Rev. Chris
