For your consideration……

“Guilt is like putting bitters in a dessert.”

What a beautiful message we have today. It puts guilt and regret in the context it should be in.

We are reminded again to let go of guilt, judgment and regret. We had only to think it and God took care of it. We have heard this message before. But I love the analogy today. The focus of the message is not on the past but the future. The emphasis is on damage prevention not damage control.

Guilt and regrets taint and ruin every moment they are in. They rob the moment of its full potential.

Perhaps I have told this story before. I know I have to many of my friends. I was teaching one day and someone brought up the fear of the end of the world. The class was all boys except for one girl who was sitting near me in the front of the class.

As the boys discussed everything from sci-fi action to garlic and vinegar, the girl whispered to me. “I am just going to repent, repent, repent. Every day I repent.” This beautiful girl was barely 16.

I replied to her, “Oh my, what on earth could you have to repent?”

I didn’t wait for her to answer. Instead I went on to say, “You know what I always think? I always think that the very best way to repent is to be my very best self right now.”

There was a long pause where neither of us spoke both of us lost in thought.

Then I saw….literally saw….the lights come on in her eyes. “Yeah….she said…..yeah that’s right.” You could see and feel the weight of the world lifted from her young shoulders. The power she thought she had lost, was back in her control.

That is what today’s message is meant to do. Lift the weight from our shoulders. Leave guilt and regrets behind and embrace this moment with our best self. We have the power to do that.

That is the HOPE. And so it is.

Bit by bit, piece by piece, HOPE by HOPE action steps anyone can take……

-Meditate/pray….ask….”What is my next step for my highest good and the highest good of all?”

-Drink lots of water.

-Get outdoors and take in at least 10 deep breaths. Whenever it is possible (for us in the north….before the snow falls), let your bare feet tough Mother Earth for at least a few minutes a day.

-Be your best self.

What made me smile yesterday……

-Beautiful matched bouquets for Mom and Aunt Bev.

-A beautiful service for Aunt Bev.

-Seeing lots of relative and friends that I rarely see.

-Hot stew on a cold, cold day. We had our first snow fall.

Love, Blessings and Gratitude,

Rev. Chris
