Prayer and Forgiveness

For your consideration….

Prayer and forgiveness is something I know needed to be written here. But frankly, I feel it is so important that I am worried about communicating it as well as need be. So I have kept it on the back burner. But it has come up frequently in the last couple of days, and in meditation this morning and then this card came up specifically for you and for me. So here we go….

God is perfection. He made your soul and mine perfect. But does he expect perfect behavior? No. He asks us to do our best and learn as many lessons as we can along the way in fulfillment of our life journey. The important key is how we treat ourselves and others when we make mistakes.

I don’t have to tell  you that forgiveness is a golden tool in our life tool box. But perhaps we do need reminding that  forgiving ourselves is every bit as important.

The Catholics have the process of going to confession. You go, confess, receive penance and go on your way. Hopefully without the guilt of the sin(s).  It is over and done with and the slate is clean. Your soul is happy. That is what God wants.

That is a good process. Does everyone need to be Catholic? No, because we should all know we do not need anyone to intercede with God for us. He is there for us always and has legions of angels, ascended masters and loved ones to help us.

Here is where I think many of us go astray. We pray over and over for forgiveness of the same things. We forget God is perfect. He hears us the first time we ask. He forgives us the first time we ask. By continuing to pray for forgiveness of the same things over and over we show God that we did not accept his forgiveness. We choose instead to continue to berate and belittle ourselves. That is not what he wants.

It is our ego that won’t let go. Not God. It is our ego that wants us to continue to punish ourselves. Not God. It is our ego that diminishes us in our own eyes. Not God. The sad thing is that if we tell ourselves these things long enough, believe it long enough, we become a self-fulfilling prophecy. That is not what God wants.

There is no greater gift than love. It is the most powerful energy in the universe. To get to love we must use our forgiveness key in our life tool box. We must use it to forgive not only others but more importantly to forgive ourselves.

Remember, God hears us the first time. We need to take a step back and see us as God sees us. A child with a perfect soul worthy of all God’s gifts…..worthy of love. That is what he HOPEs.

Bit by bit, piece by piece, hope by hope action steps anyone can take…..

-Have a frank conversation with God. Finally, let all of the old stuff go.

-Be joyous. You are given gifts each day. Identify them. Be grateful.

-Take a walk, take some deep breaths.

-Pick a flower and bring it in to honor the beauty and love in you.

What made me smile yesterday…..

-I got my hair cut. Why did that make me smile? So I won’t cry.

-Good dreams. The dream catcher is working.

-I asked Peanut if they were almost done with schoolwork. She smiles at me and says, “Oh, yeah, we haven’t even got out a pencil in 2 days.” We are just doing fun stuff.”

-My Peanut. Her brother’s team lost an important baseball game. Instinctively she knew how upset he was. She packed up all his gear for him and waited for him to come off the field. She greeted him, with an arm around his shoulders and some quiet talk for just him.

-I volunteered to finish up the programs for Hail and Farewell. I think Alex must have helped me with the last ones because it took me a lot longer than I thought. But they are done, look good and I smiled.
