Hiding Deficits
For your consideration……
For today’s message I was reminded of a brief part of conversation I had with my friend at lunch Wednesday. Camille is a friend and mentor and we never talk politics so I am not sure how the subject of Syria came up. We just agreed it was a mess but touched briefly on covering up…..in this case lack of knowledge and experience.
We have all done it. Somehow we have judged ourselves and decided we are lacking yet no one else seems to see it. We “know” we are lacking skills, knowledge, expertise, will-power, confidence, etc. We know we are not qualified for the situation or task at hand but we pretend that we are because we are embarrassed to tell the truth. We do not want to diminish ourselves in the eyes of others.
There is a couple of things going on in today’s message. First of all, is the judgement. Our judgement comes from our ego. Also from the ego, comes the false pride where we puff ourselves up to appear to be more than we are.
Our authentic self remembers that we are perfect exactly as we are. We are perfectly built for our life purpose. Sometimes we have to ask our ego to step aside. Our authentic self is our truth. We can never go wrong when we stand in our truth.
Truth….or lack of…..is the second part of our message. It may very well be that we are not qualified or the most qualified. We may be lacking skills that others assume we have yet we are in the situation or position. Divine Timing is always right. We do not need to hide our deficits. We need to acknowledge them and look around us for those who do possess them. Anyone in business will tell you that a great boss is not the one who knows everything. He is the one who surrounds himself with people who do.
No one is perfect. No one is the best at everything. We are where we are supposed to be for a reason. So rather than beating ourselves up for what we are lacking, we need to focus on why we are here in any given moment….in any given situation…. and what are the strengths we bring to it.
Hiding our deficits serves no purpose and it severely compromises success. We are reminded to stand in our truth. It is not only good enough. It is the best, perfect and exactly what is needed.
That is the HOPE. And so it is.
Bit by bit, piece by piece, HOPE by HOPE actions steps anyone can take…..
-Meditate/pray……converse with your authentic self. Let it take the lead. Live in truth.
-Get outdoors and take in at least 10 deep breaths.
-Drink lots of water.
-Love you. Honor you. No regrets.
What made me smile yesterday……
-A great school day. I had a wonderful teaching assistant working with me. At one point a student was questioning a decision. She responded, “Yes, I could do that but I made a choice to do this. We all have a choice.” You know I love those words.
-Lots of sun and plenty of heat.
-My clean windows.
-I do not remember ever noticing this happen. We have had abnormally high temperatures. Last night a huge wind came up. It did not last long….a minute or two. When it left, it was no longer very hot but very cool.
-Catching up with Mary.
Love, Blessings and Gratitude,
Rev. Chris
