For your consideration…….

I am at my cottage I call Stillwater. When I am here I love to sit on the back deck for my morning meditation. Usually the birds are softly singing as they were today. But today they were drowned out by the loud and boisterous sea gulls. This has never happened before. While I am on a canal, Stillwater is set back from the North Channel far enough that I rarely see sea gulls. So clearly they wanted my attention.

Sea gulls are very complex birds and so therefore is the message. I know why they were sent to me but you will have to ferret out the part of the message that is meant for you.

Ted Andrews in Animal-Speak tells us that sea gulls are shore birds and rarely go far away from land. Shorelines  are magic places. They are not of water nor land. It is the “in-between” place. Edges of woods are like this also. They are the places we usually associate with Faerie Realm.

While sea gulls seem like a noisy interloper, they are the model of decorum; behavior, courtesy and communication in their and other dimensions. Sea gulls remind us of the other dimensions and that the line between is thin. Staying open to communication leaves us open to an enriched life.

Because the sea gulls exhibit model behavior, we are also called to examine our own. Is there something we need to change? Or perhaps we are supposed to set an example or even be teaching model behavior or communication.

Sea gulls have not only mastered an intricate code of behavior but they have also signal and codes for their own rituals. Sea gulls remind us to be open to the subtleties of communication…..the reading between the lines. They also hold the key to psychological communication reminding us that we too have this ability should we chose to develop it.

Sea gulls are the little “janitors” of the beach. And here you thought they were beggars. Not so they are sentries ever ready to pick up what you leave behind. So being conscious of the environment is part of today’s message. Or perhaps you are being called to do ecology work.

Who would believe that sea gulls are fussy eaters? Young sea gulls are. Mothers have to stimulate them to eat. That is what the red dot on their beak is all about. Baby sea gulls have to poke it to be fed. So perhaps you are being called to pay attention to your diet.

See, who knew gulls were so complex? I must add that they were very insistent this morning so whatever part of this message was meant for you is an urgent call…..a wake up call.

That is the HOPE. And so it is.

Bit by bit, piece by piece, HOPE by HOPE action steps anyone can take…….

-Meditate/pray…..what does your authentic want to say to you today? What does it want you to do?

-Drink lots of water.

-Get outdoors and take in at least 10 deep breaths.

-Count your blessings.

-It is Friday. Laugh. Get ready to play.

What made me smile yesterday……..

-A wonderful easy and slow morning.

-Meditating on the back deck.

-A relaxing kayak trip.

-Catching up with Jody.

-And Jackie checking in making sure I don’t want to chicken out.

Love, Blessings and Gratitude,

Rev. Chris
