For your consideration……

“Go with the flow.” We have all heard that many many times. So many that perhaps we have not given it much thought. Certainly, we have all felt off center or had a bad day. Even here I’ve mentioned going with the flow. When we are “going with the flow”, it just feels right. It feels natural. It is our HOPE that more and more of each day we are in  this natural state of rightness.

How can we do this? Awareness is a first step. Putting our attention to it is a second.

A long time ago I was introduced to a technique called “the invisble thread”. I confess I don’t remember where. But in the last 4 or 5 years, Pat Fero, has used it in workshops and retreats she has hosted. In a nutshell this technique is to just follow the flow wherever it goes.

Are you thinking, “so it never stops?” No, again it has to do with intention and seeing it through until a rightness or completion is felt. Of course, in a workshop, seminar or retreat that intention is usually to weave together collective energies and get everyone comfortable and on the same page. It is very effective.

But we can use this same technique in our everyday life. Of course, we have timetables that frequently need to be met. We have obligations we have to meet. Still, we often create a plan with slots for each committment and then get so tied in to the plan we create additional stress.

We have all had days where nothing went according to plan but worked out better than we hoped. That is what we should be shooting for in each of our days. We need to leave room and flexibility for the flow that will naturally seek its smoothest path.

The “invisible thread” can be used as a training tool. When we have those thoughts of something we should do, want to do, someone we want to talk to, why not just follow that invisible thread. Don’t put expectations on it. Just go with it as long as it feels right. When it feels complete, stop.

Examples.

-You want to talk to a friend. Pick up the phone and call and talk until you’re done. It feels right. It feels good.

-You feel like today would be a good day to garden but you were going to grocery shop. Go out and garden. Garden as long as you feel into it. Stop when you aren’t. Who said the entire garden needed to be planted or weeded today? Maybe it feels better if you can get out there a little bit each day.

-You were on your way out the door and your husband wants to tell you a story or just talk. You can tell he just wants to talk to you. Don’t judge. Stop, follow it through and then walk out the door.

-You feel like a walk. It is a beautiful day but you have chores. Go for the walk. Don’t set a time, route or pace. Just walk until you feel complete. Who said the chores have to be done today or all at once?

You get the picture.

Again, it is about pausing and listening  to our Core Essence Self. What feels right? Follow the flow of the “invisible thread” until we feel good, right and complete. The more we practice this, the easier it becomes for us to recognize and know when we are on our right path.

Bit by bit, piece by piece, hope by hope action steps anyone can do…..

-Drink lots of water

-Pause for as long as you can

-It’s the weekend follow your “invisible thread”.

What made me smile yesterday….

-Impromtu speeches from my 6th graders

-Peanut got back in the pool for swim practice. When asked how it felt,  she replied, “Great, really great.”

-AJ’s determination

-Gunner and Reesie bringing me to
