Life Rhythm
This is a good message for us today. There is a lot more angst than normal on Mondays. Many of us feel like a lot of our flexibility is taken away due to the pressures of our work and school life. We are kind of on the downhill side of the week until we hit Wednesday, hump day, and we start to anticipate our days off. Does that sound familiar? That is often the rhythm to our work life.
Life if full of rhythms. Rhythms make us comfortable. Often it is the disruption….the change….of rhythms that cause us fear, anxiousness, stress etc. In fact, if you really want to get someone’s attention, change the rhythm or pattern. Remember the book, Who Moved The Cheese?
Why is this a good message for today? Because we are reminded that when we are stressed or anxious, we have access to rhythm to put ourselves back on even keel.
How?
-Breath….We always have the rhythm of our breath. Our body automatically responds to deep breathing.
-Music…..The beat in music is therapeutic. Whether we are up dancing for joy or quietly sitting with our eyes closed, music finds the tempo of our heart beat and syncs to it.
-Drumming….Our Native American ancestors knew the value of drumming and syncing our heartbeat to that of Mother Earth and Father Sky. Have you ever known someone who is constantly tapping their fingers, a pencil or their foot? Nervous habit? Perhaps, but it is also a solution to keeping in rhythm with their life.
-Yoga….Om etc. comes from the Hindu religion and are used in some yoga. The sound ‘om’ tunes the body’s energies and syncs them to themselves and the nature around them. The sound ‘Om’ is believed to be the basic sound of the Universe and that it contains all other basic sound.
-Singing bowl….The singing bowl, brass, crystal etc., with a tuning stick creates a vibration that tunes the different energy center of our bodies.
-Dancing….Whether carefully choreographed or with wild abandon dancing syncs us to the beat.
-Sitting peacefully….When we are quiet we begin to hear the rhythm of the silence around us.
-Sit or walk quietly in nature….Mother Nature has a natural rhythm, each moment of each day…each season year to year.
-Sit by a body of water….Listen to the rhythm of the flow.
-Meditate….Listen to the beat of your own heart and the vibrations of your own body.
We always have access to rhythm. We can always re-sync ourselves to calm after every curve ball thrown at us.
That is the HOPE. And so it is.
Bit by bit, piece by piece, HOPE by HOPE action steps anyone can take…..
-Meditate. Notice your own rhythm.
-Drink lots of water.
-Get outdoors and take in at least 10 deep breaths. Remember, they do not have to be all at once.
-Step outside after dark tonight. Hear the rhythm of the dark.
What made me smile yesterday…..
-4 hours alone with my Babycakes.
-Watching her take off. What a ride, Alex!
-Catching up with Cathy, Shannon and Jackie. They made a long hard ride home wonderful.
-A nap.
-Leftovers. Thank you. I was beat.
