Self-Soothing During the Pandemic

For your consideration…

A goal with babies is to get them to self=sooth. We need to get them to the place where they do not need to be rocked or held relax, let go, and sleep.

Our message today reminds us that we never grow out of the need to relax, let go, rest, and sleep. We need to be able to self-sooth ourselves. Most of us may not have given much thought to this. Perhaps we self-sooth automatically. But perhaps we don’t recognize those things or practices that do sooth us.

As always, a very good place to start is with our breath. Slowing our breath down, noticing it, and focusing on it always helps us. And the good thing about breath is we have it where ever we go and no matter what we are doing. Meditation helps. Or perhaps, it is putting on favorite sweats and sitting down with a nice warm cup of coffee or tea. Maybe it is getting lost in a book. Perhaps it is music. Perhaps it is snuggling under a warm blanket or touching a favorite blanket.

We are asked today to think about what our self-soothing things are. Hone in on them. Keep them handy. And use them everyday.

That is the HOPE. And so it is.

Bit by bit, piece by piece, HOPE by HOPE action steps anyone can take…

-Affirm…“I am loved.”

-Meditate/pray…ask…”What is my next step for my highest good and the highest good of all?”

-Drink lots of water.

-Get outdoors and take in at least 10 deep breaths.

-Self-sooth.

Love, Blessings, and Gratitude,

Rev. Chris
