November 17, 2014 – Small acts of kindness | Motivating Giraffe

For your consideration…

Think about what comforts you.”  That is how today’s message started. From there I was reminded about the saying “random acts of kindness.”

If we think about it, the things that comfort us are almost always small things. Warm, uncomplicated food like soup, mac and cheese, grilled cheese, a cup of coffee, etc. An unexpected phone call or hug warms our hearts.

Several years ago I broke my back volunteering for Meals on Wheels on Christmas Day. Recovery is over time with restricted activity. Of all of the things, my husband stepped up to do, making and getting me cups of coffee, was the most special. He knew that movement was difficult so he would not only make and bring me cups of coffee throughout the day and night, he would also place the cup next to me with the handle turned just so so that it was easy for me to pick up. Taking the extra time to do that little thing meant the world to me.

That is what today’s message wants to emphasize. Those little things and details show that we pay attention and we care. Those little things matter, they are never too little, and we can never do too many of them.

That is the HOPE. And so it is.

Bit by bit, piece by piece, HOPE by HOPE action steps anyone can take…

-Affirm…“I am loved.”

-Meditate/pray…ask…”What is my next step for my highest good and the highest good of all?”

-Drink lots of water.

-Get outdoors and take in at least 10 deep breaths.

-Do little acts of kindness.

What made me smile yesterday…

-Catching up with Mary and both my girls.

-A home PJ day.

-Lots of crafting done downstairs.

-A good book.

Love, Blessings, and Gratitude,

Rev. Chris
