It’s The Little Things
For your consideration…
Today’s message started coming in last night. I just didn’t realize it. Let me explain because I think it is a good example of “the process,” ways we may receive them and in this case…if you don’t get it the first time how they may be represented to you until you do.
My friends, Vicki and Julie, came for dinner last night. They are brave souls, I used all “guinea pig” recipes which all turned out to be keepers. After dinner, we were sitting chatting. We asked Vicki how couple’s therapy was going. She gave us an example of an exercise and how it was working out. The exercise is noticing acts of kindness. She mentioned that her husband had put out a coffee cup and the creamer on the kitchen counter for her. Such a small thing is big not only because it is something he does not normally do but because that simple act let her know that he was thinking of her even when they were no actively engaging.
That brought up my own story. When I had broken my back, it was difficult for me the move around much. Under my direction, Bruce learned to make coffee (one of my favorite things in the world…a true comfort food for me). Then he would pour it and bring it to me. But that isn’t the most special part. He would put it down so that the handle was positioned just right so it was easy for me to pick up. That was special. So that was the discussion. Still I did not get it was meant for today’s message.
When I sat down today to meditate for it, my puppy, Louie, crawled into my lap and ever so gently put his little paw on the top of my hand and started rubbing it. Then…finally…I heard, “It is the little things.”
It is the little things that we are blessed to receive that constantly remind our hearts that we are special and loved. Today we celebrate them.
That is the HOPE. And so it is.
Bit by bit, piece by piece, HOPE by HOPE action steps anyone can take…
-Affirm…”I am loved.”
-Meditate/pray…ask…”What is my next step for my highest good and the highest good of all?”
-Drink lots of water.
-Get outdoors and take in at least 10 deep breaths. Be grateful for Mother Earth.
-Celebrate the little things with gratitude,
What made me smile yesterday…
-A fun kitchen day making some new recipes. These were both great. https://cooking.nytimes.com/recipes/1015707-lemon-garlic-kale-salad (I also added some bacon bits) https://www.halfbakedharvest.com/pumpkin-beer-broccoli-cheddar-soup/
-Vicki and Julie came for a visit.
-An easy Bruce day.
-I make cards for my daughter to take to work for when they need a card to send to patients. Shannon called to tell me one of her Drs said I should put my cards on Etsy. How nice for him to not only notice the work but comment on it. Again, it is the small things.
-I have 5…yes 5 baby quilts that need to be made. Four of them I need now. Vicki and Julie helped me lay them out last night saving me a lot of time.
-A good book.
Love, Blessings, and Gratitude,
Rev. Chris
