For your consideration…

What is the first thing that comes to mind when your think of the word strength? Many of us think of the physical, what the body can do. I certainly give a lot of thought to that as I frequently feel lacking when taking care of my husband.

But if we stop to think about strength as we are being asked to do, we know that there is a much bigger meaning describing strength. It centers around the spiritual, the strength that comes from within our authentic self. When we picture the Dalai Lama, Mother Teresa, or Gandhi, do we see them as weak? They certainly don’t project as people of great physical strength but we know them to be very strong; of wisdom, spirituality, character, determination, etc.

Strength is courage under fire. It is speaking up when we don’t want to. It is being a good listener when we want to scream. It is doing versus procrastination. It is doing the honorable thing when no one else is. It is following your own spirit. It is serving your community or country even when they don’t appreciate it. It is defending the defenseless. It is tackling jobs you don’t know how to do but being willing to learn. It is about reaching out to strangers, meeting new people, doing new things. It is about opening our minds to new ideas, theories, etc.

Strength of spirit carries us when the body can not. Strength of spirit allows us to grow into and complete our life purpose. We all have it. We were born with it in our life toolbox. Sometimes the ego smothers it makes it fearful and doubtful. But that does not have to be the case. We can bring our strength forward at this moment and every moment. We can live with courage and strength.

That is the HOPE. And so it is.
