For your consideration…

For sure when we are distracted, upset or angry about something we tend to not be our best self. That is why practicing and making common courtesy part of our every day life is key.

Every one knows that common courtesy is essential to a positive productive society. Yet, all to often it is not common anymore. I am sure a lot of factors go into this but one is for sure…social media. It is hard to hold people accountable on social media. The more frequent and disrespectful words and behavior are numbing us. The more they are let go, the more we tend to just let them go. No correction, no action required. So the disrespect and lack of courtesy just keeps reverberating around us.

I have mentioned before that the first month of each school year for the past 6 years, I have worked with another teacher in Kindergarten and Young 5 classes. The very first thing we teach is respect and common courtesy because it helps students be successful. It is a tool for them to use to navigate through life. We consistently remind them to use kind words. Say please and thank you. Apologize when necessary and how to let others know when you think you are owed an apology. Knock on the bathroom door before entering. Be a good listener. Be a good helper. Clean up after yourself. Use books and toys gently. Etc. Etc. Etc.

No matter how hard a teacher works, it is hard to overcome the influence they experience outside of school. I am not just talking about in their home. I am talking about the society they live in in general.

Common courtesy is the Golden Rule put into action. “Do onto others as you would have them do unto you.”

Today’s message reminds  us the importance of making…keeping…common courtesy an automatic part of our every day lives. It also asks that we demand common courtesy from others. We have a right to expect that. People who are unwilling to treat us with courtesy and respect have no right to be a part of our lives. They simple take up the space of someone else who deserves it.

That is the HOPE. And so it is.

Bit by bit, piece by piece, HOPE by HOPE action steps anyone can take…

-Affirm…“I am loved.”

-Meditate/pray…ask…”What is my next step for my highest good and the highest good of all?”

-Drink lots of water.

-Get outdoors and take in at least 10 deep breaths.

-Honor common courtesy.

What made me smile yesterday…

-My Guidance has helped me beyond measure the last few weeks. I am amazed.

-A beautiful day.

-A special Ford had going on when I bought my new car. Sign up and go to their Tech Show and receive $500. Wow, not bad for a few minutes of my time.

-I helped at our club getting ready for a high school reunion. Not only is it good camaraderie, I always learn something new.

Love, Blessings and Gratitude,

Rev. Chris
