“Wheel of Joy”

For your consideration…..

Joy is the emotion we have when all is well. It’s when we are at peace and experiencing happiness and well-being. We all want that, right?

Well here’s the deal. We are all expected to have it. The Universal God expects us to be joyous. It is supposed to be our “natural” state. There is not a shortage of it. If we have it, it doesn’t mean someone else doesn’t. Everyone was born with it. And if we are not experiencing it, it is time to get into our life tool kit and fit whatever ails us. It is up to ourselves to identify and fix whatever our problem (real or perceived) is.

Waiting patiently or not for joy does not work. Joy is an active emotion. It requires participation. We have to seek it out in all of our blessings. We find it when we are grateful. We find it when we are actively giving and receiving. We find it when we love and honor ourselves.

What interrupts joy?

Maybe anger. I am going to go out on a limb here and say that anger can serve a purpose. If it draws us to a needed action. If it makes us get out of a stagnent state. If it motivates us to do the right thing. But if it robs us of joy. It is wrong. Even if it started for all the right reasons. It no longer serves us well if it is stealing our joy. So we must let it go.

Maybe grief. We are entitled to our grief. To honor the love and loss of someone or thing precious is a natural process. It is healthy. It becomes unhealthy when we get stuck in it. It becomes unhealthy when we are stuck on the loss and can not remember the joy the person or thing we are grieving brought into our life. If our memories of that joy are not our predominent thoughts, we are on the wrong road. We need to change it up.

Maybe fear. We all feel fear. We were given “fear” as an attention getter. Fear makes us aware of potential danger. Sometimes it is a teacher. It has its purpose but it is meant to be fleeting. It is not a constant state of being we can live in and be healthy. If we are fearful, we have no choice but to confront it and deal with it or it will continue to rob us of joy.

Maybe loneliness. No doubt about it. If you are lonely, you will not feel joy. Once again it is up to us to identify why we are lonely and then take action. Life requires interaction. It is a two way street.

We can go on and on but you get the picture. If we are not feeling joy, something has interrupted it. Something has interrupted our life’s normal steady flow. We have to ask ourselves why and then take action. No one else can do it for us.

And when we have joy, if we are in our natural state, being grateful goes a long way to keeping it. That is the HOPE.

Bit by bit, piece by piece, hope by hope action steps anyone can take…..

-Meditate. There is no way around it. Meditation and prayer take us back to our center, to our true-selves.

-Drink lots of water. It cleanes us. It helps with our clarity.

-We need fresh air. Just as water is. The fresh air is a gift that cleanses us. It rejuvenates us. Take in at least 10 deep breaths outdoors.

-Pay attention to your “joy meter” today. On track? Need course correction? Take action.

What made me smile yesterday……

-Somebody get over here and slap me up side my head. With the amount of affirmations I get on a daily basis, how on earth could I let something like a closing stress me out. And sure enough when I remember and give it up, things start turning around. Dah.

-A great call from my friend, Christine.

-Grocery shopping done. Check. Documents delivered. Check. Mail mailed. Check.

-My friend, Sandy, knows we love her.

-A great offer of hospitality from Navy parents, Bret and Debbie. They have offered us a place to stay while Yvette competes in the Art Prize.

Love, Blessings and Gratitude,

Chris
