“Get over it
Get over it
All this whinin’ and cryin’ and pitchin’ a fit
Get over it, get over it” (Eagles)

For your consideration……

Today’s a first. First I heard the song……modified…..and then I was given an example and I see why. The lyrics to the song were too heavy for today’s message.

The modified lyrics I was given was “Step over it, Step over it.” The example I was given is a personal problem I have with myself and I have been telling it recently to a couple of my friends. It is silly really. I am a voracious reader. I always have a couple of books going at the same time. I carry a book or my Kindle with me in my purse or school bag. I am rarely without one. I find it hard to put down a good book and am excited to get back to it when I have to. My problem is once I start a book I feel obligated to finish it. If it is terrible, I still feel obligated to finish it. My friend, Jim, once told me that was ridiculous. It was the author’s job to grab the reader. If they don’t do that within the first couple of chapters, don’t finish it. Put it down. It makes sense but I have real problem doing it. Consequently, what would normally take me a day or two to read turns into a week or two. I am working on this and I have gotten better. After all, I tell myself, “You are missing a lot of good books wasting time on this one.”

What does this example have to do with today’s message? It is this. Some of us are real doers, achievers, over achievers, problem solvers etc. We are determined and if that issue or problem crosses our path, by gosh we are going to fix or solve it. We are told today that we waste a lot of effort and emotion when we do this because not every problem that crosses our path is ours to solve. Sometimes we are meant as an observer. Sometimes we are not meant to be involved at all because it is someone else’s lesson.

We are asked to take ourselves off of “auto problem solving mode” and be conscious of what crosses our path. If it is not our problem or issue….”Step over it.” Keep on going….without judgement or guilt…..even if it is easier to fix it ourselves…..step over it and keep on going forward.

That is the HOPE. And so it is.

Bit by bit, piece by piece, HOPE by HOPE action steps anyone can take……

-Meditate/pray…..focus on you. Take care or you lessons.

-Drink lots of water.

-Get outdoors and take in at least 10 deep breaths. I can’t wait. It looks fabulous.

-Decide to be joyous and share it wherever you go.

What made me smile yesterday…….

-The sun.

-An early trip home from Stillwater with my friend, Carol.

-Every errand on my list done by 2:00. Wahoo.

-Laundry done.

-A good long talk with my Sis and sister-in-law Cathy. Ahhhh lots of laugh-out-louds.

Love, Blessings and Gratitude,

Rev. Chris
