“At the Heart of the Matter” by Lyle Hatch

For your consideration……

Today’s message is so “practical”. It’s like yeah, why didn’t I think of that? Are you ready? It is exactly this.

“Don’t react to the “layers” react to the heart of the matter.”

If we stop to think about it, most disagreements or troubles are symptoms…..layers. Often the “heart of the matter” lays buried underneath lots of layers. We react over and over to these different layers rather than waiting and reacting once to the crux of it all….the heart of the matter.

Further when we react to the “layers” we inadvertently create more layers further burying the real problem and creating more on top of it.

We need to slow down, relax, take a step back and ask ourselves….our real selves…..our authentic selves…. some questions i.e.; What is really going on here? Does this seem right? Is this normal behavior or out of character? What are they really feeling? What am I really feeling? Why? Why is this pushing my buttons? What is really going on in their life? What is really going on in mine. Is this real? etc.

We are being asked  to drill down to the “heart of the matter” and react to that versus the symptoms layering on top of it. We have a choice. We always have a choice.

That is the HOPE. And so it is.

Bit by bit, piece by piece, HOPE by HOPE action steps anyone can take…….

-Meditate/pray……Finding and knowing your center is the best preparation you can have for finding the heart of the matter.

-Drink lots of water.

-Get outdoors and take in at least 10 deep breaths.

-Journal issues and gratitudes. Are the issues real? What do you think is really going on?

What made me smile yesterday……

-An unexpected lunch with Kathy. It is fun catching up.

-Talking to both my girls.

-Talk about the “heart of the matter”. Shannon was so concerned. Suddenly she had no water. But her men came to the rescue. AJ inadvertently shut the pump off while trying it help his Nana. It was a light switch and his was simply trying to get her some light. Unfortunately it was the pump. He helped his Dad solve the problem. Mystery solved.

-As you can see from the late posting. I took the day off and slept in…..no alarm today. Wahoo.

Love, Blessings and Gratitude,

Rev. Chris
