Observing
For your consideration….
I should have seen this message coming. Or perhaps, I already had it and didn’t yet understand it. I say that because all week long when I sit to relax two memories keep coming back.
In both of them I am with my daughter, Alex. In the first one we are in Rome in a hotel room that is very tiny. It’s bathroom is about the size of one in an RV. The window in the room is what created the memory. Like many old hotels in Europe, this hotel had a window with a wide sill, one you can sit on. The window opened and had no screens. This hotel overlooked the Trevi Fountain. Many people gather around the fountain late into the night. It was a wonderful place to sit on the window sill and observe.
The second memory that kept popping in was from our last trip to Poland. We took a side trip to Krakow and stayed in a hotel that had recently been updated. The room was fabulous and they had kept the window with the wide sill that you could open, sit on and observe from. In this memory I was busy but heard Alex talking to someone. “Who are you talking too?” I asked. “Jackie” she replied. And sure enough when I went over and looked out there was Jackie sitting on the window sill in her room having a smoke.
Here in the USA, those window sills would be considered dangerous and an open invitation for law suits. In Europe it is different. Those wide window sills are invitations to pause, sit and observe. That is what our message today asks us to do.
Again, I have a sense that many are feeling overwhelmed, restless, disheartened, rushed or anxious. Some are asking, “What next?” “I feel like I need to be doing something else.” “What is it?” Still others are feeling powerless and that is where today’s message comes in.
Observing is a tool we have in our life tool kit. If we give ourselves permission to just sit and observe without and an agenda and without judgment, we begin to see the vastness of what is right outside our window, close by and even within our home. We can see all that has been laid before us…for us.
I love teaching Social Studies and I always tell my students, “If you are asked a question in Social Studies and you do not know the answer, start thinking about resources that were available. How might that have attracted people, how might they have used them?”
Lightworkers, observe the resources that have been laid before you. What do you want to do with them?
That is the HOPE. And so it is.
Bit by bit, piece by piece, HOPE by HOPE action steps anyone can take….
-Meditate/pray…ask…”What is my next step for my highest good and the highest good of all?”
-Drink lots of water.
-Get outdoors and take in at least 10 deep breaths.
-Pause and observe.
What made me smile yesterday….
-A fun school day which included, dressing up, a Halloween party and parade through the neighborhood. Too much fun.
-Great weather for it.
-Kerri and Jeff. Jeff sure knows how to treat his girls right. Stuck in Texas due to bad weather, he grabbed a suite at the Hilton.
-A visit from Yvonne.
Love, Blessings and Gratitude,
Rev. Chris
