For your consideration…

My friend, Beth, lost her husband a few months after I last mine. Besides the loss of your partner, there are many many things that need to be done. They are things that you have never done before but they must be done. They seem overwhelming. Where and how do you start? As Beth likes to say, “You start by taking one bite out of the elephant at a time.” This is her take on the old African proverb, “The best way to eat an elephant standing in your path is to cut it up in little pieces.”

There are times in our lives where we are overwhelmed. Perhaps it is because we have never done them before. Perhaps it is like now, the holiday season and there are lots of extra things that we need to get done. Perhaps it is a new job or a move, etc. Whatever the reason, we feel overwhelmed and perhaps “stuck.” We don’t know where to start. We want to put our head in the sand or under the covers. Yet we know that doing nothing exacerbates the situation.

Our message today tells us to pause, breathe, and let go of the fear and worry. Know all is well and just take a bite…do one task. The first bite is the hardest. Like the elephant or the first bite of an unpeeled apple, once you bite into it and get it started, each bite after gets easier.

That is the HOPE. And so it is.

Bit by bit, piece by piece, HOPE by HOPE action steps anyone can take…

-Affirm…“I am loved.”

-Remember…You are the keeper of the light. Wherever you go, there an be no darkness.

-Meditate/pray…ask…”What is my next step for my highest good and the highest good of all?”

-Drink lots of water.

-Get outdoors and take in at least 10 deep breaths. (This can be a good first step.”

-Just take a step.

What made me smile yesterday…

-A beautiful day.

-A good book.

-Wrapping done.

-Catching up with Mary and Lori.

Love, Blessings, and Gratitude,

Rev. Chris
