The Dance of Life
The Dance of Life
Professor Helen Milroy, 2006.
For your consideration…
You know I love when our message is brought in via a song. I am super excited when I find the perfect image to go with it as happened today.
Our song today is by songwriters Steve Seskin and Allen Shamblin. It is the song Life is a Dance. These are the lyrics that we are especially pertinent today.
Sink or swim you gotta give it a whirl
Life’s a dance you learn as you go
Sometimes you lead, sometimes you follow
Don’t worry about what you don’t know
Life’s a dance you learn as you go
Sometimes you lead, sometimes you follow
Don’t worry about what you don’t know
Life’s a dance you learn as you go
The longer I live the more I believe
You do have to give if you want to receive
There’s a time to listen, a time to talk
And you might have to crawl even after you walk
You do have to give if you want to receive
There’s a time to listen, a time to talk
And you might have to crawl even after you walk
The whole song is great with perfect examples but our message today is about remembering that sometimes we are required to lead and sometimes we are required to follow. The roles are equally important. Learning when to do which is the tough part because depending on our personality, we are more comfortable with one or the other. Stepping up or down, leading or following, requires that we truly listen and hear, listen to what our gut is telling us.
The last thing we want to do is take over someones lesson but we also need to recognize when they really need help and how much we need to give. Likewise we have to recognize the same with our own challenges. We have to know when to ask for and accept help without dumping the whole problem on someone else.
Leading and following are both sides of the same coin. We learn and grow balancing them in our life.
That is the HOPE. And so it is.
Bit by bit, piece by piece, HOPE by HOPE action steps anyone can take…
-Affirm…“I am loved.”
-Meditate/pray…ask…”What is my next step for my highest good and the highest good of all?”
-Drink lots of water.
-Get outdoors and take in at least 10 deep breaths.
-Lead and follow.
What made me smile yesterday…
-Friday.
-Bruce and I went to our club for the monthly steak fry. It is always good to see friends.
-It was cooler than expected and we had rain but never when I needed to be outside. It held off until I got the kids on the bus. It held off when we were at the steak fry. And it poured at the in between times.
-Some good TV time and then early to bed.
Love, Blessings and Gratitude,
Rev. Chris
