For your consideration……

Like anything else we tend to focus on the big things and overlook the smaller version of the same thing. Differences are no different. Frequently when our attention is brought to “differences” we think of diversity. Diversity within our own nation and throughout the world. But today we are reminded to go back to basics and celebrate the difference and uniqueness of the individual.

I am sure you are the same as I am. We tend to think that our friends are just like us. But when we step back and take a deeper dive, we see that really isn’t so. Frequently, it is their differences that we admire and are attracted to. Certainly, we accept them.

My friend, Jody is staying with me. We have talked a lot about our ideal vacation. She likes activity I like the solitude. Last night we joined friends I used to work with. We make an effort to get together several times a year. Many of us are retired and the others, for the most, part wish they were. When we are together, we all share what we are doing. The differences are vast. Some golf almost every day. Some travel south for the winter. Some take their grandchildren for days on end. Some work part-time others wouldn’t even consider it. Yet our friendship and respect for each other is as strong as it ever was. We celebrate that our friends are getting to do just what they want. It may not be what we would choose but we are happy for them anyway.

And you see that is where world healing begins. It begins by looking at each person on the individual level. Remembering that each nation is made up by individuals. Governments or groups may divide but individuals unite. Individuals celebrate each person’s uniqueness and their right to share it. That is the HOPE.

Bit by bit, piece by piece, hope by hope action steps anyone can take…..

-Meditate. Gently push away all of those tasks that pop into your head away. You can get back to them later.

-Drink lots of water.

-Take in at least 10 deep breaths outdoors. If you feel stress throughout the day, stop and take some deep breaths and slow things down a bit.

-Enjoy the fruits and vegetables that are the bounty of summer.

-Stop for a moment and look at your friends. How are they different from you?

-Journal what you are grateful for.

What made me smile yesterday….

-Oh yes, the famous Ypsilanti Gabriel’s cheese steak. Philadelphia’s can not hold a candle to Gabriel’s.

-A great night out with old friends.

-Denise, so good about getting us together.

-Another fabulous, magnificent storm with the steady beat of rain to sleep to.

Love, Blessings and Gratitude,

Chris
