For your consideration…..

I came out of meditation this morning chuckling. Once again, I could hear my mother saying, “Use your head.” Of course, as I was growing up she would most often use those words when we had done or wanted to do something stupid. However as we grew up, she would say those same words as advice cautioning us to stop and think about it (whatever the problem or situation was).

We all were born with our own talents and our own guidance system that is perfect for what we need to navigate through our life. We have what we need should we choose to follow it. It is useless to us if we do not pay attention to it. When we have those little nagging thoughts that pop up, we need to pause and examine where they are coming from. If our gut is sending us signals, we need to engage our brain and think before we act. We need to sync our mind, heart and gut.

Over the years I have had many people work for me. If I am asked for advice on the best people to hire, I always say hire the thinker. Hire the person who can use their brain. Hire the person who can recognize a situation, put a plan of action together and can implement it. That is not always the candidate with the best grades or highest IQ. Many people are very smart but can not translate that into action.

When I teach social studies, history or literature, I have a game I like to play. I will ask a lot of why questions ie; Why did they do this? Why was this important? Do you see any parallels to today? etc. I stress that I am not necessarily looking for the right answer. I don’t expect them to know it because it is not in the book but I am looking for students who are thinkers. If  you can tell me why and how you came to your conclusion, it is right. I stress that I am looking for thinkers….independent thinkers. I stress that as adults it will be up to them to ask questions. It is not good enough to listen to the news or other people. They have to think for themselves.

Today’s message asks us to be a thinker….think for ourselves…..listen to our own internal GPS.

That is the HOPE. And so it is.

Bit by bit, piece by piece, HOPE by HOPE action steps anyone can take….

-Meditate/pray…ask… “What is MY next step for my highest good and the highest good of all?”

-Drink lots of water.

-Get outdoors and take in at least 10 deep breaths.

-Listen to your thoughts. Be an independent thinker.

What made me smile yesterday…..

-An easy low key day.

-Errands run.

-Watching TV shows I have taped but never seem to have time to watch.

-Talking to both of my girls.

Love, Blessings and Gratitude,

Rev. Chris
