For your consideration….

All I’m trying to say is….

I didn’t mean it like that.

I misspoke.

You misunderstood me.

You know what I meant.

What I should have said was….

I was kidding. Can’t you take a joke?

What we have here, is a failure to communicate.

Have you heard or experienced any of these? My guess would be everyone has.

Today’s message is about communication. Words really don’t matter. It is the intention behind them that does. Think about it. Young children or people who do not have a command of a language, may repeat or use a word inappropriately. We take no offense because they are just words. What the speaker meant is what is important.

Here is an example. You are called a “bitch.” Generally speaking it is a pretty unflattering word and often it is meant to be a slam. However, in some cases between friends and family, it is a term of endearment or meant as a compliment because you have hung tough and strong. The giver and the receiver know the intention.

We have had messages before about the media at our disposal. It has made so much information and venues of communication available. But one of the downsides of all the communication at our disposal, is the misinterpretation. It is hard to judge intention when we can not see and hear the delivery of the words in person. We can not see and feel the intention. Now the words are just words open for interpretation because without the seeing and feeling, we tend to take the words very literally even if that is not the way they were meant to be received.

The intention of our words sets energy…good and bad… into motion both from us and the receiver. We are asked today to think about our intention, how they are going to be received and perceived, and choose our words wisely.

That is the HOPE. And so it is.

Bit by bit, piece by piece, HOPE by HOPE action steps anyone can take…..

-Meditate/pray…ask…”What is my next step for my highest good and the highest good of all?”

-Get outdoors, put your bare feet in the grass and take in at least 10 deep breaths.

-Drink lots of water.

-Think about and choose your words.

What made me smile yesterday….

-A perfect cool sleeping night.

-A beautiful sunny day.

-Alex’s amazing quilt. Proof positive. Attitude matters.

Love, Blessings and Gratitude,

Rev. Chris
