Learn To Be Still

by Don Henley and Stanley Lynch

It’s just another day in paradise
As you stumble to your bed
You’d give anything to silence
Those voices ringing in your head

You thought you could find happiness
Just over that green hill
You thought you would be satisfied
But you never will
Learn to be still

We are like sheep without a shepherd
We don’t know how to be alone
So we wander ’round this desert
And wind up following the wrong God’s home

But the flock cries out for another
And they keep answering that bell
And one more starry-eyed messiah
Meets a violent farewell
Learn to be still, learn to be still

Now the flowers in your garden
They don’t smell so sweet
Maybe you’ve forgotten
The heaven lying at your feet

There are so many contradictions
In all these messages we send
(We keep asking)
How do I get out of here
Where do I fit in?

Though the world is torn and shaken
Even if your heart is breaking
It’s waiting for you to awaken
And someday you will
Learn to be still, learn to be still

You just keep on running
Keep on running

For  your consideration……

I love this song. In the silence of stillness we gain perspective.

We are asked everyday to meditate/pray. Sometimes it is more difficult than others. It is important not to judge. The most important thing is that we do it daily.

It is also important that we set up a time each day to be still and just listen and feel. Will those thoughts, ideas, problems or tasks keep trying to run through our head? Sure. But we are in control and we can ask them to stand aside. They may or may not be important. It is just that it is not the time or place for them when we are in our stillness.
Our stillness is our sacred place. Like church we may turn away from it for a while but it is always waiting….anxiously awaiting…..our return. We are asked to schedule time for our stillness but also know that we can go there anytime. It is always waiting for us.
That is the HOPE. And so it is.
Bit by bit, piece by piece, HOPE by HOPE action steps anyone can take……
-Meditate/pray….ask….”What is my next step for my highest good or the highest good of all?”
-Drink lots of water.
-Get outdoors and take in at least 10 deep breaths.
-Be still.
What made me smile yesterday……
-It is a little warmer.
-Mixer problem diagnosed and now being fixed. Relief.
-I ran into an old student at a new school. She was so glad to see a familiar face.
-Bruce and I went on a date night to the movies.
Love, Blessings and Gratitude,
Rev. Chris
