For your consideration……

Oh yeah, that dirty word “work” on a Saturday no less.

It’s a funny thing about work. When we think about work as in a job, people often complain and live for the weekends. Those who don’t have it complain and HOPE and dream about getting work.

Then there is work as in tasks. You know, the things you have to do just to keep life humming along. We often call those chores. Blessed are those who can do them with humor and joy and cursed are those who can’t.

When we think about work it is often like that….a pro and a con, a ying and a yang, two sides to it.

Our message about work today is very specific. It is about working towards a goal, a dream and/or life purpose. We ask, “Why is it such hard work when we know, like we know, like we know that we are doing exactly what we are supposed to be doing?” We might think that if we are doing what we are supposed to be doing, life will just flow and it should not be work.

Indeed, we are encouraged and coached to go with the flow of life. However, that does not mean there will not be work involved. The answer to the “why” is this.

When we work, we receive compensation. The compensation is not always monetary. The more important compensation of work is the knowledge and skills we gain and hone. Once we have earned them, we possess them forever and they’re added to the foundation and building blocks of our lives. We are made stronger and wiser. We can build on them. They give us confidence in our abilities and the courage to move forward to accomplish more.

That is the real value of work. Work is not punishment. It is an opportunity to achieve and grow. It fans our passion.

That is the HOPE. And so it is.

Bit by bit, piece by piece, HOPE by HOPE action steps anyone can take……

-Meditate/pray……consistently.

-Drink lots of water.

-Get outdoors and take in at least 10 deep breaths.

-Do something you love doing.

What made me smile yesterday…….

-A great lazy morning.

-A late breakfast with daughter, Shannon. We used to do that all the time. I miss it.

-I got my great birthday present up and running. Fun.

-Despite the light being out on my sewing machine, I was able to get my quilts done….with a little help from my husband I might add.

Love, Blessings and Gratitude,

Rev. Chris
