For your consideration……..

Your Song

lyrics by Bernie Taupin sung by Elton John

It’s a little bit funny this feeling inside
I’m not one of those who can easily hide
I don’t have much money but boy if I did
I’d buy a big house where we both could live
If I was a sculptor, but then again, no
Or a man who makes potions in a travelling show
I know it’s not much but it’s the best I can do
My gift is my song and this one’s for you
And you can tell everybody this is your song
It may be quite simple but now that it’s done
I hope you don’t mind
I hope you don’t mind that I put down in words
How wonderful life is while you’re in the world
I sat on the roof and kicked off the moss
Well a few of the verses well they’ve got me quite cross
But the sun’s been quite kind while I wrote this song
It’s for people like you that keep it turned on

So excuse me forgetting but these things I do
You see I’ve forgotten if they’re green or they’re blue
Anyway the thing is what I really mean
Yours are the sweetest eyes I’ve ever seen

This song expresses how special a  loved one is and how special their gifts. It talks about “How wonderful life is when you’re in the world.” and how people like them “keep the sun turned on.”

Today’s message is two sides of the same coin. Certainly it is a blessing when we have special people in our lives that share their gifts with us. On the flip side is our own gift to the world. In the song the author minimizes his own gifts. He minimizes the words he has written as though they are not good enough and don’t measure up to the gifts he has received.

We are reminded that we are all gifts, each unique and perfect. While it is good to acknowledge the gifts others bring into our lives, we must not minimize the gifts we bring to theirs. Think about it. How apt are you to share a gift you don’t really like or don’t think is good enough? Not likely, I suspect. So when we minimize our selves we are less likely to share our gifts and that is a travesty.

Embrace the gift of you and trust it is not only good enough but perfect for those who cross your path just as they are for you.

That is the HOPE. And so it is.

Bit by bit, piece by piece, HOPE by HOPE action steps anyone can take…..

-Meditate/pray….be alone with you.

-Drink lots of water.

-Get outdoors and take in at least 10 deep breaths.

-Journal

What made me smile yesterday…….

-Sunshine…..it may be cold but the sunshine lifts our spirits.

-Finally catching up with my sister.

-Embracing a challenge.

Love, Blessings and Gratitude,

Rev. Chris
