For your consideration…..

“One defining moment does not a life make.”

That is today’s message. It does not matter how big or small it is. It does not matter if it is good or bad. It alone does not define our life.

A defining moment may change the course of it. It may be a “light bulb” moment for us and change our thinking. It may exalt or shatter us.  Indeed defining moments have great impacts on our life. Yet they are still a moment exactly the same size as every other moment. It is our perception and judgement that shifts reality and makes the moment seem bigger than it is.

So what does that mean for us? It means that no matter how good or bad we think we are in that defining moment, it does not define the totality of our lives. We can try to rest on our laurels but it will not work. And there is no need to “throw in the towel” because we have disappointed ourselves or others with unkind, embarrassing or even horrible actions. Yes, even they are just a moment. We can try to lay judgement on them and make them seem bigger than they are. We may even accept that they are bigger but the reality is the moment is the same size as every other.

Each moment is an opportunity. It is the totality of them that defines our life….not just defining moments.

That is the HOPE. And so it is.

Bit by bit, piece by piece, HOPE by HOPE action steps anyone can take………..

-Meditate/pray…….staying balanced sets us up for good choices.

-Drink at least half your body weight in water.

-Get outdoors and take in at least 10 deep breaths.

-Relax. Spend time doing what brings you joy and comfort.

What made me smile yesterday……

-Waking up to a message from my brother that he was close by and wanted to stop in.

-Those great boots by the back door that I have been meaning to find a home for….found a home.

-An eternal optimist……My first graders were all packed up and waiting for the bell to ring. I said, “It has been my pleasure to be teacher today. I HOPE you have an awesome weekend with having an extra day off.” To which one boy replied, “It is really like have 4 days off because we are done with school and a lot of today is still left.” He was so right.

-An email from our Alex.

Love, Blessings and Gratitude,

Rev. Chris
