Both Sides Now by Joni Mitchell

Rows and flows of angel hair
And ice cream castles in the air
And feather canyons everywhere
I’ve looked at clouds * that way

But now they only block the sun
They rain and snow on everyone
So many things I would have done
But clouds got in my way
I’ve looked at clouds from both sides now

From up and down, and still somehow
It’s cloud illusions I recall
I really don’t know clouds at all

Moons and Junes and Ferris wheels
The dizzy dancing way you feel
As ev’ry fairy tale comes real
I’ve looked at love that way

But now it’s just another show
You leave ’em laughing when you go
And if you care, don’t let them know
Don’t give yourself away

I’ve looked at love from both sides now
From give and take, and still somehow
It’s love’s illusions I recall
I really don’t know love at all

Tears and fears and feeling proud
To say “I love you” right out loud

Dreams and schemes and circus crowds
I’ve looked at life that way

But now old friends are acting strange
They shake their heads, they say I’ve changed
Well something’s lost, but something’s gained
In living every day

I’ve looked at life from both sides now
From win and lose and still somehow
It’s life’s illusions I recall
I really don’t know life at all
I’ve looked at life from both sides now
From up and down, and still somehow
It’s life’s illusions I recall
I really don’t know life at all

For your consideration……

I had forgotten all about this song but was so glad to have it call out to me today. This song today reminds us that it is all about perceptions.

We can all look at the same thing and all have a different perception of it. And as our life ebbs and flows so does our perception. As we see today we more than likely not see tomorrow.

When we remember this, it provides us with HOPE. At least it does me and I HOPE it does you. Life is not stagnate. It is ever changing. And our perception and reaction to it is as well.

If we are not happy today, wait a bit. The clouds will float away and the sun will shine soon enough. And sure enough our perception will be different with the light of it.

That is the HOPE. And so it is.

Bit by bit, piece by piece, HOPE by HOPE action steps anyone can take…….

-Meditate/pray…..it is a sure fire way to clear the clouds.

-Drink lots of water.

-Get outdoors and take in at least 10 deep breaths.

-Look up at the clouds and watch as they clear and change.

-Write down what you are grateful for in this minute.

What made me smile yesterday……

-My Sis cooked breakfast for me. I love breakfast.

-Talking with Alex and texting with Shannon. Funny girls.

-Lori dropped up off early for our cruise. It was the smoothest check-in I have ever had. Within minutes we were on the ship. We waited for only a couple of minutes chatting with a couple who are cruising while their home continues to be fixed from Hurricane Sandy (Don’t you love their attitude?). Then we were unpacked and back out on deck in the sun.

-A great evening just doing whatever we felt like when we felt like doing it.

-Bruce is happy, happy, happy, happy.

Love, Blessings and Gratitude,

Rev. Chris
