For your consideration……

While it may have otherwise felt like it at times, we are not an island unto ourselves. We did not arrive to this moment alone and unassisted. Thankfully many have crossed our paths to make us who we are. And we in turn have done the same for our fellow-man. People are there for us and us for them in big ways and small, in good times and bad, in sickness and in health and in joy and in sorrow. We do not have to walk the path of life alone. For this we can be thankful on this Thanksgiving Day.

When I was given this message today I was reminded of two things. The first that it is a great message for Thanksgiving. And the second was of a favorite poem that I will include for our men and women who are away from their families today serving their country in HOPEs of a better future for all of the world. To you we say thank you and God Bless.

IT IS THE SOLDIER

by Charles M. Province

It is the Soldier, not the minister
Who has given us freedom of religion.

It is the Soldier, not the reporter
Who has given us freedom of the press.

It is the Soldier, not the poet
Who has given us freedom of speech.

It is the Soldier, not the campus organizer
Who has given us freedom to protest.

It is the Soldier, not the lawyer
Who has given us the right to a fair trial.

It is the Soldier, not the politician
Who has given us the right to vote.

It is the Soldier who salutes the flag,
Who serves beneath the flag,
And whose coffin is draped by the flag,
Who allows the protester to burn the flag.
