For your consideration…..

I have to admit that when I was given this message this morning, I had to look up this fairy tale because I did not remember it.

The Emperor’s New Clothes is a Danish fairy tale written by Hans Christian Andersen and first published in 1837. It is the tale of a very vain Emperor who is tricked by weavers. They have told him they have woven a suit of clothes that is invisible to anyone who is basically stupid or somehow unworthy. Being vain he pretends as does everyone else that they can see the clothes. It isn’t until a young boy calls out that the “emperor is not wearing any clothes” that everyone finally admits that they also see  him as naked. And it is then that the emperor also realizes he has been duped.

How often have you said or thought:

“This is just ridiculous.”

“This is just not right.”

“Seriously?”

“This is just stupid.”

My bet is a lot. And that is why we were given this story today. Too often we “discount” what our head, heart and gut tell us is true. We ignore our instincts. Too often we reject them because we don’t want to go against the majority. We don’t want to stand out. We are afraid of looking “stupid”.

But you see, that is just what has happened. We have been “hoodwinked” into believing that everything is alright. If it doesn’t seem that way to us, then we must be somehow lacking. We must not understand. We must have missing pieces. But that is the untruth, not what we know and can feel to be true.

We have been given this story today to remind us to listen to our authentic self. Listen to the signals it gives our head, heart and gut. It is time, way past time for everyone to live and stand confidently in their truth. That is how we change the world…..each of us standing in our truth.

That is the HOPE. And so it is.

Bit by bit, piece by piece, HOPE by HOPE action steps anyone can take…..

-Meditate. Establish a constant communication channel to your authentic self.

-Drink lots of water.

-Get outdoors and take in at least 10 deep breaths.

-Stand in your truth. You don’t have to argue about it. Just be it.

What made me smile yesterday……

-A great morning ride to Lansing. I got to watch the sun come up in my rear view mirror.

-My, Peanut, an awesome swimmer. She is so strong. Wow. Amazing.

-Lunch with Shannon and Peanut.

-A great visit with Mary including a brief one with AJ and Makenna.

-A chill evening at home.

Love, Blessings and Gratitude,

Rev. Chris
