Bump in the Road

For your consideration……
We are reminded today that life is like a road trip. There will be twists and turns. And, yes, bumps in the road.
There is much truth to the saying, “When the going gets tough, the tough get going.” But even more than that, how we handle the bumps is a pretty good indicator of our spiritual growth.
Are we throwing up our hands and saying, “Woe is poor me. What did I do to deserve this? Why me? etc.” Or are we moving forward as a survivor in the optimism of our faith, confident that somehow we will meet this challenge?
I venture to say that most of us waffle back and forth a bit on all bumps big and little. For example, when we are hit with a huge bump, our anxiety takes over and our first reaction may not be the best. However, as we breath, take a step back, look at the bump etc. we realize, of course, we will move over or around it. Of course, there is a solution. Of course, I can and will move past this.
Those of us who have had the benefit of wise grandparents or seniors in our lives have seen first hand the confidence that the experience of life has provided them. And Hopefully, as we travel our own road gathering our own wisdom and solidifying our own faith we become better and better at meeting these bumps with less stress and more grace.
Bit by bit, piece by piece, HOPE by HOPE action steps anyone can take……
-Meditate. A regular routine of meditation is a reminder of your center that will become more easily accessible when you need it….when those bumps in the road pop up.
-Drink lots of water.
-Take in at least 10 deep breaths outdoors.
-This is a transition time of the year. As nature changes so do we. Honor that. Do you need more rest? More water? Hot soup?
What made me smile yesterday….
-Oh yes, challenging middle schoolers. You just have to smile. They don’t know if they want to be big or little.
-Wow, lots of tasks done.
-Peanut had an awesome swim meet. She is so beautiful in the water (out of it as well), fluid grace in motion.
-AJ cheering his sister on.
-Shannon, at the swim meet and making every moment count by knitting a scarf for a friend.
-Alex’s head hurts. Solution….go for a run. That a girl.
