For your consideration…

All These Things That I’ve Done (in part) by the Killers

When there’s nowhere else to run
Is there room for one more son
One more son
If you can hold on
If you can hold on, hold on
I want to stand up, I want to let go
You know, you know, no you don’t, you don’t
I want to shine on in the hearts of men
I want a meaning from the back of my broken hand

Another head aches, another heart breaks
I am so much older than I can take
And my affection, well it comes and goes
I need direction to perfection, no no no no, help me out
Yeah, you know you got to help me out
Yeah, oh don’t you put me on the backburner
You know you got to help me out, yeah

Today’s message comes in via one of my favorite songs by the Killers, “All These Things That I’ve Done.” I am not sure what songwriters: Brandon Flowers / Dave Brent Keuning / Mark August Stoermer / Ronnie Jr. Vannuccisage were writing about but for me and today’s message it is about growth in maturity and spirituality.

The song talks about both holding on and letting go. We work hard to grow and achieve our goals. Once we are there and comfortable, we may find it hard to let it go and move on to the next level of our growth. We are given the example of children in sports. They work hard and often just as they get really good, they age up and are competing against other children who are much better than they are. They have to start the climb all over again.

We are asked to keep challenging ourselves. Let go and grow.

That is the HOPE. And so it is.

Bit by bit, piece by piece, HOPE by HOPE action steps anyone can take…

-Affirm…“I am loved.”

-Meditate/pray…ask…”What is my next step for my highest good and the highest good of all?”

-Listen and take that step.

-Drink lots of water.

-Get outdoors and take in at least 10 deep breaths.

What made me smile yesterday…

-Meeting up with friends in Pittsburgh.

-Visiting a restaurant that one of Alex’s friends, Ben, started. Now I have to visit the one he started in Detroit.

-Amanda and Rob’s wedding.

-The venue made it easy for Bruce to get in. I fully expected to have to leave early but he hung tough and it was a good night.

Love, Blessings and Gratitude,

Rev. Chris
