For your consideration…

Values are the important principles and standards of behavior that people use to negotiate through life. Today’s message calls attention to our values.

We develop our values. We first are introduced to them through our family. We are taught right from wrong. We learn about choices. Of course, we also learn that life choices are not always black and white. Making choices is where we actually implement our value system. Through life experience we strengthen our values, identify our core ones and learn to stand firm on them. We are able to do that because ultimately our soul has incorporated what is right for us. It tells us what is right and wrong, what is a good choice and what is not.

Our values are inherent to who we are. We do not all share the same ones. Even if we do share them we may not prioritize them the same way. Certainly, how committed we are to them varies greatly.

Important to today’s message is a few things. First we are reminded to think a bit on our values. Secondly, when we get that nagging feeling. Pay attention to it. Often it is that we are considering doing something that goes against our values or something we are being urged to do because of our values. Finally, we are reminded to not let other people negate them. We should not let the media, people, organizations etc. intimidate you into going against your core values.

A good example is various women’s movements. They set up their core values and to be included you must hold them as well. Perhaps you agree with everything except abortion. Or perhaps you agree with everything but don’t agree with expending effort and money trashing the president. Perhaps, you agree with everything but don’t agree with the way they are managed or how they dictate to members. The point is.

We have choices and we should never turn away from our core values or let others tell what they are. Every single one of us is valid and any person, media or organization the tells us differently is not only wrong but not worthy of our time.

That is the HOPE. And so it is.

Bit by bit, piece by piece, HOPE by HOPE action steps anyone can take…

-Affirm…“I am loved.”

-Meditate/pray…ask…”What is my next step for my highest good and the highest good of all?”

-Drink lots of water.

-Get outdoors and take in at least 10 deep breaths.

-Honor your values. Celebrate them.

What made me smile yesterday…

-A beautiful day.

-A dermatologist appointment that I waited a long time for. One more thing to get done over the summer.

-A good book.

-Catching up with both of my girls.

Love, Blessings and Gratitude,

Rev. Chris
